CERCA’s 2025 Bat Monitoring Project Report
The 2025 bat monitoring season marks the sixth year of acoustic bat monitoring in the Cowichan Valley coordinated by CERCA, a program initiated in 2020 by CERCA Co-Chair Dr. Bill Heath. In 2025, four Wildlife Acoustics Echometers were deployed across eight monitoring sites, with trained volunteers operating the devices and transferring recordings into standardized datasets for analysis.
Monitoring took place from April 1 to December 24, with seven sites completing the full season. This program would not be possible without the dedication of the eight volunteers who carried out the monitoring, and the continued support of Matt Carlson, who generously analyzed the 2024 monitoring data pro bono.
